The world is shrinking. Technological progress, in particular towards communications, transport and logistics, is significantly driving this trend. Quick, affordable and convenient international transport connections allow products and components to be easily exchanged and sold as if on the domestic market. Low transport costs and increasing technical standardisation are fostering this development.
The other side of globalisation resulting from quick and affordable networking and accessibility worldwide is traffic increase. It is one big driver of climate warming and environmental problems, which are giving rise to some terrible forecasts for the 21st century.
The CEP industry’s special responsibility
The CEP industry particularly profits from advancing globalisation, which gives it a special responsibility. As the markets dependency is growing, the volume of goods is increasing above all in Europe and, consequently, also the demand for quick and reliable express courier services.
DPD, however, wishes to think of globalisation not only as an economic opportunity but also as an ecologic challenge. Thus while the company is participating in the economic dynamic, DPD is also working on solutions which help to conserve the environment and resources – in other words, which enable sustainable development. DPD has already reacted here with numerous measures but wishes to do more.
